StepToMilesCalculator.com does one job: convert steps into distance, accurately and honestly. A free calculator, a conversion chart, and plain explanations of the arithmetic behind them — nothing else.
Why this site exists
Most step converters online copy the same numbers from each other without saying where they came from. Some divide by a "stride length" that is actually a step length, which doubles or halves the answer. Almost none tell you that the average they use might not fit you.
We built this site to do the opposite:
- Every figure is sourced. The averages, coefficients and constants we use are listed with their origins on the methodology page.
- Limitations are stated, not hidden. Our default 30-inch step length is the published male average — and we say plainly that it overstates distance for most shorter adults, then give you two ways to fix it.
- Terminology is correct. Step length and stride length are different things, and the site never swaps them.
How the calculator works
Everything runs in your browser. Type a step count and the distance, kilometres, steps per mile and walking time update as you type — nothing is sent to a server, nothing is stored, and there is no signup. The full formula, defaults and sources are on the methodology page.
